Veterans Resource Center

Veterans Connect at the Library Soldier with Duffel Bag

The Veterans Resource Center at the MCFL King City Branch was established through a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.

Staffed by volunteers, is dedicated to helping veterans and their families connect with the benefits they have earned through their years of service and sacrifice.

Trained volunteers at each station provide assistance connecting veterans to resources both in and outside of the Library. This includes access to library materials and pamphlets on various topics including:

  • Transitioning from military to civilian life
  • Finding jobs
  • Surviving change
  • Veterans’ benefits
  • Managing post-traumatic stress disorders.

Computer and wi-fi access is also available at all MCFL locations.

We are available to assist you at the library in person or over the phone at 831-385-3677 every Friday from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

The Veterans Resource Center at the MCFL King City Branch asks for your help in our effort to capture the voices, experiences, and life stories of our local veterans, to be preserved and presented with dignity for the larger community.  If you are a veteran, or know one that you think would be interested, ask them to join us for a day of special interviews about your experiences as a veteran.

DATE OF EVENT:  Friday, April 14, 2017

TIME: 10 am - 2 pm

LOCATION:  King City Branch Library, 402 Broadway, King City, CA 93930

The recordings will use The Listening Station, an iPad based tool for capturing audio recordings or video recordings of two people in conversation.  During a half hour long session, you will be assisted in preparing for a conversation with questions and topics, oriented to the equipment, and then record 15-30 minutes on the topic.

You will immediately receive your recording via an online system.  The stories will become part of the Monterey County Free Public Library Archive as well as the California State Library.

The Listening Station was developed by Berkeley-based StoryCenter.

There are only 8 interview sessions available, so please apply as soon as you can.
